Helpful Definitions:
Away Rotation: AKA "aways"...A 1(ish) month trial period at hospitals around the country applied for and completed during medical school in years 3/4 in the specialty of your choosing

Dr. H: to remain semi-anonymous, this is my significant other's code name after medical school
Mr Almost Dr. Fiance: to remain semi-anonymous, this is my significant other's code name in medical school
MS1: 1st year in medical school - for the MD track this year consists of lots of studying and tests in the classroom setting
MS2: 2nd year in medical school- for the MD track this year consists of lots of studying and tests in the classroom setting- Step 1 exam is at the end of this year.
MS3: 3rd year in medical school- for the MD track this year is full of experience in each specialty in the hospital setting with a "shelf" test after each specialty. Step 2 occurs between yr 3/4.
MS4: 4th year in medical school- for the MD track this year is full of experience in each specialty in the hospital setting with a "shelf" test after each specialty. Interviews for residency occur. Match Day occurs.
Residency: Applied for during year 4 of med school. Interviews held in the winter of ms4. Match Day (AKA "The Match") in March of MS4 is when you find out where you will complete your training immediately after graduating med school. Residency is 3 years for non surgical specialties and 5-6 years for surgical specialties. See the tab "When I Grow Up" to understand more about the residency application process.
